Work continue towards 2.24.x and 2.26.x

Thu, February 5th 2009

Since this is my first post in this year I wish you all a happy new year 2009 , tough better late than never :) . Ok many things has happened since last time. The most important one is that we have now a new big right hand in the team, at least its how I consider it. So very welcome to Bart, aka Tyrael. He is working on its own branch which is most probably updated to the 2.25.90 sources in total or nearly like that. This means that we will have the next upcomeing gnome release way much faster that it was up to now. And hopefully for both i686 and x86-64 archs. Another thing is that soon we will move all this stuff or to sf.net or at least to google code. I will advise when this wil happen. As for the 2.24.x stable release, I can say that many bugs has been worked out with Trovao on a i686 arch, which means that also a x86-64 arch will incorporate. I hopefully if time permits will release an experimental installer for whom will want to test. Also we have thiago ,aka salvador_br working on the drl_installer sources. Hopefully this can make a nice push up to the things and soon we can be again on the good track with all the things. Thats it for now.

Soon more updates. And in mean time enjoy as much as you can :)

DLG64 2.24.x is comeing together.

Mon, December 8th 2008

Today I have been able to start my ugly desktop in the virtualbox. So this is manly thanks to Tyrael, who has helped me with a lot of packages. Many many thanks Tyrael !! Ok, lets go to some details. I have been working on it some days now and if I have time as I have it those days I hope to have soon an Alpha release ready with the installer. Still missing many packages, but we will try to build that as soon as possible. Also trying to improve my helper dbs64/trunk/buildall.sh for future releases. Seems that Network Manager 0.7.0 will be working with the release. Also I will try to polish up the PolicyKit thing, and again the System-Tools-Backends, which should at least open the windows in my 2.22.x build. thats it for now, and stay tuned for news.

But as usually I mainly speak speak and speak, this time I will try to be faster and better, I wont say much and will try to do more. Thats it for now, and be tuned with this page for the news. Also for people who wants to see closer what I'm doing they can enter on the irc channel. Also check out this page to see what has been built up.

New versions .

Sunday, November 23rd 2008

Its quite some time since I posted something on this page. the reasons are time and work, which for my luck I have (at least for now) and the time is really not much. Dont worry , I will not quit working on that project, also because I use it daily and for all of my machines in my office. I'm planning an reasonable update soon, most probably before gnome 2.24.3 is released. The thing is also that working alone on this king of project is not the easiest thing. Especially when its not your job/business doing it. In any case I wanted just to say that I'm present and if somebody is wishing to help there always is place for it. Some things I was working on lately are a script helping me building automatically the gnome release , which at the present stage is really rude and not working correctly. Also because the first thing to do in it for now is makeing it stop when errors in building occurs. If you want to take a look at it you get it ˙here

DLG64-2.22.3 Beta released !!!

Monday, September 22nd 2008

Ok I want to say that I have been using it a long time , and that it is still with a lot of things to be fixed. But because I want to move quickly to the 2.24.x stuff and actually get back on the wheel to release in time, I will announce this release as a BETA. This doesnt mean that everything works. But at least is usable. Thats it. If you find some critical bugs in it let me know so we can go fixing it.

Get the installer here:  http://saxa.droplinegnome.org/x86_64/2.22/dropline-installer-2.22b-x86_64-3dl.tgz

To be able to see flash videos in firefox please check this bug out #92 . I will try to fix it asap.

Thats it and enjoy !!

Sources for GNOME 2.24.0 are coming out.

Mon, September 22nd 2008

As you can see in the subject here, GNOME 2.24.x tarballs are coming out one after one. In same order I begun updating the trunk scripts to point to the correct sources. I believe I will do this time a little differently. I will probably firstly update all of the build scripts and then will try to do a sort of buildall and try to get all the necessary builds. I think this will simplify my work of building things. Hopefully  Trovao can get his dependency checker/builder to work in time so we can test it already with this builds. Thats it for now. Stay tuned and I will still work in mean time on my dlg64-2.22.3 to make it final.

New updates and fixes up !

Sun, September 21st 2008

Ok people, back at home and begun doing some more stuff for dlg64. So fixed few bugs (just 2 #90 and #91) and added some new package updates. Also corrected an URL info in the dlg-applet so now it should show the updates correctly. I know I have not released the BETA yet, but it will be soon. Keep waiting a little more. I also hope to receive soon some feedback.

Between other things I also begun updating trunk to the 2.24.0 gnome sources. This will help to relase quicker the 2.24.0 and have an updated desktop quickly.

Stay tuned.

Going ahead towards BETA

Mon, August 4th 2008

I was thinking that today I can release a BETA but unfortunately there is still some packages to be build up. Mostly development stuff like anjuta, devhelp, gnome-build and some other things which I want to update before I go to beta stage. Today I fixed a buf which was anoying me (See #87) and hopefully the installer will work ok from now on. Also if everything goes well we will have the beta in 2-3 days maximum. Then I will go traveling and will be able to work on the thing only when I come back , so this will be in September. Maybe I get on it earlier but I dont want to promise. Also some other things were updated today like gthumb.

Thats it !!

New fixes up - beta is closer

Fri, August 1st 2008

Thanks to Rudson we have some new fixes up, especially one with system-tools-backends (bug #69 ) which I hope to solve soon. But now the windows at least apear and seems that only some permission fixes are needed. Another thing is that I rebuilt libgweather with my city in it (Gorizia) and now will begin to work on some other small bugs I would like to solve before I move to BETA stage. If everything goes well in few days I have this things fixed. After BETA is out I would like to see as much as possible tests and installs. This would help us to make a really good release. Some things I still need to do is to update the 32bit libraries to be in parallel on what we ship so no conflicts with other slamd64 programs arrise. This was reported by Shingoshi already some time ago in the #dropline64 on irc.freenode.net . Thats it for now and if you find something doesnt work well or is it wrong please let me know so we can fill a bug about it.

Ops, I nearly forget it. Soon I will move trunk to be gnome-2.23.x so we have time to be ready for the 2.24 version.

* evolution-data-server

So now I will try to fix some more bugs and then I really hope we can have a good testing. Anybody wishing to help/test is very welcome and if so please join in at #dropline64 on irc.freenode.net or drop me a line by mail at saxa .@. droplinegnome.org

Some new updates for dlg64-2.22.3-Alpha

Thu, July 24th 2008

Created a new branch under branches named dbs64_2_22_3_beta. This is where now all work will go for now. Trunk will be for gnome-2.23.5 and newer packages. So if you wish to help build packages see the How To Help page on how to update with svn your build tree. Some updates made till now include firefox-2.0.0.16 , and some other software packages. Still a lot of work to be done to have a functional desktop in all of the parts. Some packages that need attention are system-tools-backends, and some other admin stuff which is not working correctly at the moment. Thats it for now.
